As a Surgical Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering safe, effective nursing care in one or more operating room units. You will ensure proper aseptic techniques, maintain specialty service equipment, and support surgical procedures from pre-op to post-op. This role plays a vital part in ensuring patient safety, comfort, and positive outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide comprehensive perioperative care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
Maintain and monitor sterile fields, instruments, and surgical supplies.
Assist anesthesia and surgical teams before, during, and after procedures.
Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts per AORN standards.
Ensure proper collection, labeling, and handling of surgical specimens.
Act as a resource and mentor for new staff and nursing students.
Support surgeon preferences and keep preference cards up-to-date.
Promote patient safety and adhere to infection control protocols.
Licensure: Current RN license with the Alabama Board of Nursing.
Certifications: Must complete hospital-based ACLS and PALS.
Experience: Minimum of 3 months nursing experience preferred; OR experience highly desirable.
Skills: Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
