Job Summary:Memberof Executive Team providing oversight for3.7M members who are cared for by 6,200+ physicians and 70,000 employees at 200+ medical office buildings and 14 hospitals. In alignment with the KP Promise (to consistently provide high quality, affordable health care in an easy and convenient manner with a person touch), the COO shares joint accountability with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group Executive Leadership Team for creation of strategic direction, sustainability of physician practice and business, and assurance of optimal culturally responsive and high quality care for our 3.7M members. The position works primary with the Regional Medical Director for Operations. The COO also supports, works closely, and partners with the Regional Medical Directors for Finance and Business Management and for Quality/Clinical Analysis. This position also partners regularly with Kaiser Foundation Hospital and Health Plan and represents SCPMG both regionally and nationally as needed.Essential Responsibilities:
  • Includes operational effectiveness and facilitation of collaboration between medical center CAOs, SCPMG leadership, and Kaiser Hospital/Health Plan.
  • In partnership with Area Medical Directors, provides oversight and direction to CAOs.
  • Evaluation and deployment of optimal care delivery models.
  • Identification, alignment and execution of evidence based practices.
  • Development of and adherence to Southern California regional budget.
  • Local and national travel as needed.
  • Subject to an individuals areas of expertise and qualifications, specific areas of focus and regional oversight include patient support services including:
  • Back office clinical support.
  • Behavioral health care services including BHC helpline.
  • Call Center operations/member contact platforms.
  • Capital/space planning.
  • Care Experience (access and service).
  • Emergency departments and member repatriations (emergency prospective review program/EPRP).
  • Life care planning/palliative care.
  • Medical group nursing administration, Physical therapy, Podiatry, Renal services, Social medicine.
  • Utilization management.
Basic Qualifications:Experience
  • Minimum ten years (10) experience in management in a complex organization.

  • Masters degree required.

Additional Requirements:
  • Direct reports: 5 Regional Managers and 2 Regional Chief Administrative Officers (CAO) who have 1,833 staff among 9 locations throughout SCAL. Joint reports: 13 CAOs who are responsible for over 50,000 staff throughout SCAL.

  • Experience assessing programs, evaluating organizational needs, designing process changes, and successfully implementing change.
  • Management experience during a transition in a health care, technology, and/or business environment.
  • Proven ability or clear interest to work in a medical-management partnership and for an autonomous self-governing medical group.
  • Has a proven customer/member/patient focus.
