Community Hospital Fairfax (CHF) , a critical access hospital located in Fairfax, MO, has an outstanding opportunity for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) . The position is open as the incumbent has just been promoted to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position following the retirement announcement of the current CEO. Morgan Hunter HealthSearch has been retained to assist with this key search.

CHF is a not-for-profit, Chartis Top 100 critical access hospital with annual net patient revenues of $25M. The hospital history dates back to 1949 with a replacement facility completed in 2010. CHF is the largest employer and primary healthcare provider for both Holt and Atchison counties, with 160 staff members, as well as also providing services to parts of Nodaway County. Services provided include acute care, swing bed/skilled care, OB, surgical services, cardiopulmonary, nutritional counseling, imaging services, emergency services, laboratory, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and senior life solutions. CHF has five rural health clinics. The executive team is very stable and cohesive.

The COO reports to the CEO and is a member of the executive leadership team, with responsibility for the Plant Operations, Nutritional Services, Laboratory, Imaging, Environmental Services, and Accreditation/Quality departments, as well as the family practice clinics and ACO. The COO will have five direct reports (all department directors) and a total staff complement of between 50 and 60.

Living in Fairfax, MO is a truly unique experience. The town has a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s, with many of its original buildings still standing today. The residents of Fairfax are friendly and welcoming, with an appreciation for the beauty and history of their hometown. The population is approximately 700 with 10,000 in total for Holt and Atchison counties (and over 20,000 in Nodaway). Fairfax is near many larger communities and amenities, including Omaha (80 miles), Saint Joseph (60 miles), Maryville (28 miles), and Kansas City (95 miles).

Candidate qualifications include a minimum of five years of experience in direct supervision of hospital departments, including primary care, operations, or ancillary services. Prior experience as a senior executive, as well as critical access, is preferred. Must have a highly developed understanding of hospital finance, the regulatory environment, and be passionate about patient satisfaction and performance management. Leadership skills must be centered on mentoring, strategic planning, and collaborating with the executive team to ensure high quality delivery of care. A bachelor's degree is required with a master's preferred.
