POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Municipal Inspector is a professional with 10-15 years of experience. This position is a supervisory role and will be directly responsible for the department's Project Management. The Chief Inspector will be responsible for successful supervision or construction management of various projects. Such projects shall include roads, underground utilities, public buildings, recreational facilities, and land use applications submitted by private developers. Water / Wastewater experience a plus. PRIMARY DUTIES: Key Responsibilities
  • The Chief Inspector will lead and coordinate field inspection efforts for public infrastructure and private development projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, codes, regulations, and contract documents.
  • Responsible for projects associates with all client types, including: PB/ZBA, municipal, school board, agency, and private
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations, contract requirements, and quality standards.
  • Responsible for project initiation and proposal preparation
  • Responsible for direct project planning, including staff assignments, regular tracking of project progress, including contractor activity, both long term (Deltek) and short term (daily) and coordination with other departments and other offices
Communication
  • Communicate, and promote communication between Design and Inspection on a daily basis
  • Communicate, and promote communication with respect to project progress, to both clients and client representatives
  • Provide regular construction feedback to client representatives, design staff & clients on an on-going basis
  • Prepare municipal scope change and extraordinary circumstance letters
Staff Management
  • Supervise and mentor Senior Inspectors
  • Provide planning mentorship to Junior Inspectors
  • Implement staff development protocols, including: skills trainings and certifications
  • Application and enforcement of company policies, through Senior Inspectors
  • Develop/implement cohesive management structure for agency, construction management, water/wastewater and municipal inspectors
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Responsiveness
  • Proficient in inspection software and Microsoft Office Suite.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree in any discipline, Engineering preferred, from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum 10 years of construction inspection experience, with at least 4 years in a supervisory or lead role.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES PREFERRED:
  • OSHA Certification
  • Certifications such as NICET Level III/IV, ACI, ATSSA, or equivalent strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in the field and may be exposed to outside weather conditions. The annual base salary range for this full-time position in the United States is $73,000 - $109,500 This range represents a good faith estimate and is based on factors such as the role, level, and geographic location. The range shown reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for this position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors including skills, experience, education, and training.
