POSITION TITLE: Chief Maritime Commercial Officer

DEPARTMENT or DIVISION: Seaport

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION: Full-time, Exempt, Onsite position with extensive travel

JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Maritime Commercial Officer serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for shaping and executing the Port's commercial vision, maximizing the value of the Port's eight shipping berths situated on approximately 125 acres of land, and specializes in handling high-value, conventional and over dimensional cargoes in support of the aerospace, military, construction, manufacturing, agriculture, energy and forest products industries. This role is vital to advancing the Port's mission of economic development, trade facilitation, and public stewardship.

The Chief Maritime Commercial Officer leads strategic initiatives to attract and retain maritime business, optimize terminal utilization, and enhance the Port's competitive position in the global supply chain. The role requires a balance of commercial acumen, public sector awareness, and stakeholder engagement to ensure sustainable growth and community alignment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Grow the Port's net operating income through the development and implementation of commercial strategies to enhance the Port's competitive position and maximize revenue

• Foster relationships with key stakeholders and customers, including Boeing, Department of Defense, shipping lines, logistics firms, and industry partners to drive business growth

• Oversee market analysis and identify emerging trends to inform decision-making and strategic planning

• Lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction within all maritime services

• Engage with prospective clients and legal representatives to facilitate mutually beneficial lease and operations agreements

• Direct the development of meaningful performance measures/dashboards and monitor departmental performance

• Oversee and manage the Seaport budget, 60-65% of the Port's revenue

• Direct and oversee capital infrastructure and equipment investments necessary to maintain competitiveness

• Travel domestically and internationally to market and promote the Port of Everett's seaport facilities

• Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure compliance with regulations and to align operational capabilities with market demands

• Develop and implement strategic and operational strategies aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements

• Evaluate, recommend, and implement digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency

• Supervise and provide strategic leadership to the entire Seaport staff, including department heads, managers, and support personnel; ensure alignment with organizational goals, foster professional development, and promote a high-performance, inclusive, and accountable workplace culture

• Participate and represent the Port and specifically the Seaport on external boards, speaking engagements, Port-wide initiatives, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA's) Required of all Employees:

The possession of the following KSA's by all exempt Port employees assures that the Port is maintaining a knowledgeable, capable, professional staff that is committed to the Port's mission. As such, all exempt Port employees are expected to:

• Demonstrate expertise specific to their profession and maintain appropriate licensing/certification

• Possess intermediate level personal computer skills and the ability to effectively utilize electronic communication systems

• Display the diplomacy necessary to address sensitive issues or complaints—both public and private

• Possess effective conflict resolution and personal negotiation skills

• Exhibit high ethical standards in the execution of position responsibilities

• Cultivate and contribute to a dynamic, team-oriented work environment by being responsive, timely, respectful and knowledgeable

• Communicate effectively in English, including the ability to read, write, analyze and interpret complex documents and other written material

• Have the ability to make effective and persuasive group presentations

• Have the ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

• Possess a valid driver's license and maintain insurability under the Port's auto insurance plan

• Respond to evening, night and or weekend concerns/needs as required to fulfill position responsibilities

Required Work Experience and Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Logistics, Maritime Studies or a related field; advanced degree in business, public policy, transportation or related area highly desirable; substantial industry experience may be evaluated as a substitute

• Minimum 15 years of experience in port or maritime operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Extensive experience in maritime commerce, logistics or supply chain management

• Deep understanding of port logistics, vessel operations and maritime regulatory framework

• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate stakeholders

• Experience managing union-related matters, including contract negotiations and compliance with collective bargaining agreements

• Ability to assess operational data and implement performance improvements

• Ability to apply systems thinking and link departmental goals and initiatives with enterprise strategies and objectives
