Since 1968, Build Up Justice NYC (formerly Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A) has provided free legal services for low-income residents of Brooklyn, pursuing neighborhood-based mission of justice, empowerment, and community development. For over half a century, we have utilized an array of legal and advocacy strategiescommunity organizing, affirmative civil rights litigation, and eviction defense to defend the rights of individuals and families. Collaboration with the city, state, and federal officials to enforce housing laws and develop legislative solutions is also an integral part of our strategy. Build Up Justice NYC has three core programsPreserving Affordable Housing (PAH) Program, Consumer & Economic Advocacy (CEA) Program, and Community & Economic Development (CED) Programeach of which has unique initiatives and plays a vital community role to ensure basic needs are met and fundamental rights affirmed.
The Opportunity :
Build Up Justice NYC is looking for its next Chief Financial Officer who will be
responsible for developing, managing and evaluating all financial operations to advance the mission of Build Up Justice NYC. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO is responsible for managing a $25+M budget with a diverse public and private funding base. They will partner with the Executive Director to strategically manage financial risks in all aspects of governance, policy work and operations, and provide financial expertise in the development and management of the organization. The CFO must be a proven leader, financial and strategic business partner with the ability to manage and develop a finance team. They will have demonstrated ability to recommend and implement financial policies, oversee and manage all budgets, accounts, payroll, accounting, grants management and other financial matters. This position will supervise the finance team.
The Chief Financial Officer will :
To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of BS in Accounting, Business or related field; CPA preferred; and a minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, non-profit experience a plus.
The most important competencies for the role are :
Annual salary $190,000-235,000, dependent on years of experience. Benefits highlights - employer paid health insurance; 27 days annual vacation, employer contribution to 401(k); and paid parental leave.
