Chief Engineer - Unmanned Aircraft Systems UAS Schedule:Full-time, Monday – Friday (9-80 work schedule, every other Friday off)Company Overview:At AVX Aircraft, we're redefining the future of aviation with our cutting-edge aircraft technologies. Join us in shaping the future of aerospace with high-performance, state-of-the-art systems.Position Overview:AVX is seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to lead the design, development, and testing of VTOL UAS for the U.S. government and potential commercial applications. This role will oversee all phases of the UAS development lifecycle, from design and prototyping to testing and evaluation, with a focus on mission systems integration, AI-based autonomy, and hardware integration.Key Responsibilities:Lead and Execute UAS Development: Directly manage and contribute to all phases of UAS development, including design, prototyping, assembly, testing, and evaluation. Ensure technical objectives are met by driving progress and actively solving challenges at every stage of the process.Drive the integration of mission systems, payloads, ground stations, and other supporting systems.Lead the implementation of mission autonomy, incorporating available AI solutions to enhance vehicle capabilities.Ensure that all sub-systems and components are developed in collaboration with industry partners and suppliers.Develop and present technical briefings to internal and external stakeholders.Foster a strong, cohesive technical team and maintain high standards of innovation and performance.Core Competencies:Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of UAS systems, with experience in vehicle layout and structural design a plus.Leadership & Integrity: Strong leadership qualities to guide a technical team, combined with high ethical standards to uphold AVX's reputation for innovation and customer-centric values.Innovation & Strategy: Ability to develop strategic, innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.Team Collaboration: Skilled in managing diverse technical perspectives and aligning team efforts toward a unified goal.Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with both technical and non-technical audiences.Desired Qualifications:Proven technical leadership in VTOL UAS design, development, and testing.Experience leading technical teams through the full lifecycle of aircraft development programs.Expertise in UAS AI, mission autonomy, and advanced flight testing.Background in designing for low-cost, producibility, and sustainment.Advanced degree in engineering or a related technical field.Current SECRET Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain one.Additional Information:This is a full-time, in-office leadership position.Travel may be required.What We Offer:Competitive salary and benefits package.Opportunities for career advancement and professional development.A collaborative and inclusive work environment.The chance to work on innovative projects in the aviation industry.Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Statement:AVX Aircraft is an equal-opportunity employer.
