Chief Engineer – Lead Operations & Maintenance Excellence

Key Purpose:

Supervise and lead the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Department in a 24/7/365 environment, ensuring optimal facility reliability and performance. Oversee the direction, coordination, and evaluation of site maintenance activities, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance management, and problem resolution. Take ownership of the facility's operational integrity and provide O&M services for assigned buildings or systems.

Collaboration & Influence:

  • Report to and support the Facility Manager
  • Communicate effectively across the Business Unit and participate in cross-functional projects and meetings

Your Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of technical experience or training, ideally with a technical degree or certificate
  • Minimum 5 years in O&M and/or building engineering roles
  • Strong knowledge of work order control procedures and CMMS systems
  • Proven subcontractor/vendor management experience
  • Skilled in managing KPIs, capacity planning, and reporting
  • Journeyman-level expertise in electrical and mechanical systems
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and analytical math skills
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and create technical documentation and SOPs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the O&M team in delivering facility and utility plant operations
  • Monitor and evaluate performance, maintaining quality and safety standards
  • Assign tasks, manage preventive maintenance schedules, and ensure timely completion
  • Keep O&M documentation, drawings, and manuals organized and up to date
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and service equipment
  • Coordinate with contractors/vendors for maintenance and project work, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and site access procedures
  • Provide operational modifications, lockout/tagout, and safe work setups for subcontractors
  • Resolve operational and maintenance issues to minimize costs and delays
  • Prepare reports, scope of work documents, and equipment evaluations
  • Ensure compliance with company, client, and government regulations
  • Remain available for 24/7 emergency support

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • On-call availability for a 24/7 operational environment
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, standing, climbing, kneeling, and reaching
  • Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception
