Job Title: Chief Engineer Department: Engineering Reports to: Director of Engineering The Chief Engineer assists the department head in managing budget, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. They are accountable for maintaining the building and grounds, with a particular focus on safety, security, and asset protection. This role involves assigning, tracking, and following up on work assigned to staff and contractors, while supporting guest and employee satisfaction through effective communications and training. Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise the distribution of repair work orders.
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs.
- Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with employees.
- Monitor the timeliness and quality of completion of repair work orders.
- Assist in managing the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems.
- Ensure regular ongoing communication with employees to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
- Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of Engineering and related departments.
- Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required.
- Maintain accurate logs and records as required.
- Operate generators and fire pumps as necessary.
- Provide emergency response services 24/7.
- Repair equipment (e.g., refrigeration, laundry) as necessary.
- Ensure all employees have the proper supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
- Empower employees to provide excellent customer service.
Next Level Duties:
- Assist in managing the physical plant and critical systems (HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety).
- Provide strategic oversight for new equipment and ensure proper operation of emergency systems like generators and fire pumps.
- Supervise the response to emergencies and major equipment breakdowns 24/7.
Must Have Personal Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in engineering, maintenance, or a related professional field; or a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major.
- Technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, & plumbing is required, with preference for experience in a hospitality or hotel environment.
- Must be able to speak and read English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
