To learn more about NCSC, visit NCSC.org NCSC seeks candidate to provide strategic leadership on data science (DS) & AI to advance work of state courts & other justice systems. Applicants must possess: (i) PhD in DS, data analytics, economics, public policy, or social science-related field; (ii) 3yr exp leading DS projects in justice system environment (e.g. LLM-based chatbots, data visualization dashboards, big data collection/processing initiatives, database administration), which includes: published peer-reviewed research on AI applications w/ judicial systems; published open-source software for DS or court community; demonstrated exp transforming complex DS solutions to production-ready apps for court systems; demonstrated success: securing funding via competitive research grant to improve justice systems, & build/maintain strategic partnerships w/ court partners, funding agencies & justice system stakeholders; exp w/ DS & AI thought or facilitative leadership via speaking engagements, workshops or technical presentations to national court community; serving minimum 1 yr as supervisor for DS staff; (iii) Demonstrated ability to: represent organization in professional manner; establish credibility & interact productively w/ staff across organization & external stakeholders; foster client, funder & partner relationships & develop business proposals; distill complex quantitative results & methodologies to plain language for non-technical audiences; rapidly learn new DS/AI frameworks & methodologies; work effectively, collaboratively in team environment & independently; exercise initiative, tact & sound judgment; communication skills-written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation & facilitation-to communicate complex ideas effectively orally/written to variety of audiences; (iv) Deep Working knowledge of: policy issues re local/state judicial systems; variations in state court structures & administrative processes; DS ethics (e.g., AI/ML auditing, algorithmic impact assessments, transparency, recourse, robustness, or human-centered AI); expert-level Python & R programming w/ working knowledge of statistical analysis software. Proficiency w/: advanced DS methods such as causal inference (e.g., quasi-experimental and experimental designs) & machine learning methods (e.g., regression/classification); cloud-based services for DS (e.g., Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Databricks or others); and (v) Able to travel domestically; potential for international travel.
