Job Title : Chief Actuary, Director of Actuarial Models

Location : New York, NY

Work Schedule : Normal business hours Monday-Friday 37.5 hours / week

Job Type : Full-Time

Salary : $180,000 - $200,000 Yearly

Duties and Responsibilities :

The Director of Actuarial Models will be responsible for creating, staffing, and leading a new team within the NYSIF Actuarial Department.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Developing solutions to strategic business challenges through advanced modeling, including machine learning and AI techniques.
  • Overseeing the review and enhancement of existing actuarial models, both statistical and AI-based.
  • Leading and managing the modeling team, setting priorities, goals, and development plans to meet business objectives.
  • Ensuring project deliverables are achieved and communicated effectively to stakeholders.
  • Ensuring models are implemented with high internal buy-in and meet quality standards.
  • Expanding analytical tools, methods, and integrating new data sources and AI techniques in line with policies.
  • Implementing best practices and processes for consistent, high-quality modeling work.
  • Participating in internal reviews of AI models for compliance with policies.
  • Performing all work in accordance with Actuarial Standards of Practice.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education / Experience

  • Associate or Fellow of Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS, FCAS)
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or related field
  • At least ten (10) years of actuarial experience, including managing or directing actuarial teams for a minimum of two (2) years

Technical / Functional Skills

  • Strong understanding of current technical and statistical methods and tools
  • Experience with model building, predictive analytics, and AI
  • Knowledge of emerging statistical and AI trends and technologies
  • Proficiency in managing and analyzing structured and unstructured data
  • Familiarity with external data sources
  • Ability to interpret complex model results and communicate insights effectively
  • Excellent communication, strategic, and critical thinking skills
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to best practices
  • Team player capable of building partnerships across organizational levels

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Strong managerial, team-building, and organizational skills
  • Advanced degree in mathematical, statistical, or AI-related fields
  • Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA)
