We are looking for a Chemistry Operations Manager - FDA Detention in 2183 SE Hawthorne Rd, Gainesville, FL 32641 USA. Your mission will be to:
Position Summary The Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing a multidisciplinary chemistry team and ensuring the department operates with excellence in technical execution. This role is critical in managing laboratory operations focused on analytical chemistry services in compliance with FDA regulatory requirements. The role requires a strong background in analytical chemistry, project execution, and leadership, with proven abilities in resource management, quality assurance, and financial performance. This role manages the department's P&L, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and promotes a culture of scientific integrity, collaboration, and operational efficiency.
This position is responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant analytical testing services for detained shipments, while maintaining a high-performing team and operational efficiency.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of analytical chemistry testing related to FDA imported goods held under detention.
Ensure strict adherence to FDA regulatory guidelines, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and ISO standards.
Manage laboratory workflows, including sample receipt, testing, data analysis, documentation, and reporting.
Implement and maintain systems for project tracking, documentation, and reporting to ensure end-to-end traceability and compliance.
Supervise, mentor, and develop laboratory staff; provide training on analytical methods, instrumentation, and regulatory compliance.
Lead the development, validation, and implementation of analytical methods across diverse matrices (e.g., food, dietary supplements, spices).
Review and approve analytical data, Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and QA/QC documentation to ensure accuracy and integrity..
Act as primary liaison with clients, FDA import officers, and internal teams to ensure clarity in test scope, timelines, and reporting.
Lead internal audits and support external inspections or audits from regulatory bodies.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives for laboratory processes, operational workflows and data integrity systems.
Other related duties as assigned.

YOUR PROFILE
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline
Minimum of 5 years of experience in an analytical chemistry/testing laboratory environment
At least 3 years of direct supervisory or managerial experience, with demonstrated leadership in a laboratory setting
Experience managing a lab budget, including expenses related to reagents, equipment maintenance, and staffing.
Qualifications Desired
Advance degree in Chemistry, Food Science or related field preferred
Experience with FDA import detention protocols and regulatory testing requirements is highly preferred.
Strong communication skills
Business Acumen and Project management experience
Leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Travel
Occasional travel may be required to attend industry conferences or collaborate with other research facilities.
Typically involves travel within the country and lasts for short durations (1-3 days).
Compensation Package Overview:
Compensation Range $85,000-$95,000 annual salary USD
Potential bonus: Up to 10% based on performance.
