Work Location: On-Site, Cincinnati, Ohio

Work Schedule: Mon - Friday, 8:30 am - 5 pm

The Physical/Analytical Chemist III assists in analytical lab support by analyzing samples, ensuring that the data is accurate, reporting data, and developing new methods. This role is responsible for ensuring that lab work is completed based on business priorities, as aligned with their manager, completed accurately, documented and reported in a timely manner. The role will plan daily and weekly activities to ensure that priorities are met in coordination with their manager. The role requires excellent analytical skills and must identify solutions to a wide range of challenges from R&D, manufacturing, regulatory, customers, and other functions. The role will determine best approach to analyzing materials using physical chemical methods available, combining with other data to explain the performance of a product. The role will act independently, with guidance from the lab manager. Success is defined by having completed analysis of submitted samples in an accurate and timely manner and identifying best methods for physical characterization.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities:
  • Accurately performs, documents, and reports physical analysis of pigment and pigment related samples. 65%
  • New method development and statistical validation of new methods. 10%
  • Interfaces/collaborates with other analysts, Colors Technology Group and Technical Groups within Sun Chemical to enhance teamwork and accomplish tasks effectively and efficiently. 5%
  • Maintains and troubleshoots instruments, interacts with instrument vendors to resolve equipment problems and to keep current with new developments in instrumentation. 5%
  • Strictly follows EH&S and laboratory safety procedures. 5%
  • Performs calibrations of instruments as required by ISO 9001. 3%
  • Provides guidance to others as needed on analytical chemistry, instrument operation, and maintenance. 2%
Required Education And Experience:

PhD in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or Materials Science

Experience with microscopy, X-Ray diffraction and surface analysis

Excellent scientific aptitude, math skills, statistical capability, and problem-solving skills

Effective time management and prioritization skills

Strong oral and written communication skills

Experience using DOE software (Stat-Ease or other)

Experience using Minitab or other statistical software

Proficient in multiple computer programs
