Immediate W2 contract position available in Wilsonville, AL.

Level 1: AS degree in Chemistry or other field of science with a MINIMUM of 12 semester hours in Chemistry required.
Level 2: Chem 2 Candidates must have a BS degree in Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 12 semester hours in chemistry and any industrial experience.
Level 3: Candidates must have a BS degree in Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 12 semester hours in chemistry. They must also be able to recognize changes in color for titrations.
Level 1 Job Description / Desired Qualifications:
- A chemical technician is a highly skilled professional responsible for assisting chemists and chemical engineers in developing and testing chemical products.
- They may test chemicals for impurities, perform quality assurance, ensure that all chemicals produced comply with the applicable regulations and assess their environmental impact.
- They may also perform regular testing to determine what chemicals a product or sample contains.
Level 2 OR 3 Job Description / Desired Qualifications:
- They must also be able to recognize changes in color for titrations.
- A chemical technician performs technical and analytical services essential to the operation of a fossil fuel power plant.
- These services include water treatment and chemical analysis of water and wastewater, fuels, coal ash, and petroleum products.
- The technician provides chemical protection of the steam-generating equipment to minimize outages due to corrosion and deposits in steam cycle components, thereby reducing efficiency loss and the potential need for replacement of steam-generating, condensing, and turbine mechanical components.
- Additionally, the technician ensures compliance with governmental environmental regulations regarding water discharges and compiles, evaluates, and reports statistical data pertaining to plant performance and productivity.
- Technicians operate and maintain water treatment plants for the production of demineralized and service water and assist in maintaining an onsite sewage treatment plant.
- They perform analytical testing of boiler water chemistry and scrubber absorber chemistry.
- Responsibilities include the calibration and maintenance of equipment related to these areas and performing minor maintenance activities such as lubrication.
- Technicians are also required to perform Hazmat team member duties, including respirator qualification, to unload hazardous liquid and gaseous chemicals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tracking inventory, prioritizing orders, maintaining lab equipment and documenting the processes during each chemical test
- Following environmental regulations and reviewing newly published safety protocols from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFRA)
- Preparing chemical solutions, completing chemical orders and storing solutions safely according to different temperature requirements
- Conducting lab tests to ensure that chemicals are safe to use and recording and troubleshooting issues for further assessment
- Compiling and interpreting lab test results and correcting potential anomalies in results
- Monitoring chemical processes and resolving production issues by meeting with the appropriate personnel
- Producing and retrieving graphical results to share with lab managers or more senior personnel
- Sterilizing work surfaces and equipment before using them and replacing worn or damaged equipment as needed
- Training new technicians on different chemical processes and periodically updating their knowledge of chemical technology
Qualifications:
- Prior experience and knowledge of boiler/water analysis preferred.
- Previous work experience in a water treatment plant and knowledge and experience in the production of deionized water are also preferred.
- Experience and competency in the use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment, as well as knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques, are desirable.
- Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Familiarity with mechanical parts and repair is preferred.
Working Hours:
- 6:00-2:30 but Overtime is often.
- Normal hours would average around 50 per week.
- This position requires call-outs and overtime as needed.
- Candidates must be available for evening or night shifts, overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required.
