Overview

The Company manufactures and is a leader in its industry. It manufactures at 5 locations (3 in Scotland, I in North East England and 1 in Wales). A Territory Manager leads the business in Scotland with Plant Managers in England and Wales reporting directly to the Chief Executive. The Chief Executive has delegated a lot of responsibility to his direct reports who are supported by a small Head Office Function.

The business has grown rapidly in recent years and its financial performance and its financial position are very strong. There is good potential to further grow the business through organic growth. Given the recent growth in the business, the potential for future growth plus intention to sell the business in the short to medium term, the shareholders are looking for a Finance Director with a strong commercial focus who will bring a lot of value to the business.

Job specification

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance will lead the Finance, Accounting and Administration Team. The Director of Finance will oversee all aspects of accounting function including responsibility for management and statutory reporting, IT systems, factory accounting, budgeting/forecasting, process improvement and internal controls. This role will have a strong commercial focus working closely with the Plant Managers and also providing commercial support to the Chief Executive to include engagement with both suppliers and customers along to facilitate growing the business.

The Director of Finance will also have a key role in preparing the business for a potential sale within a 3 yeartime scale to include appointment of professional advisers, preparation of information for inclusion in data room, meeting with and presenting to potential purchasers of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain timely monthly management accounts and annual Financial Statements to a high standard.
  • Working closely with the CEO, taking a key role in the preparation of financial projections plus annual budgeting process.
  • Develop, Mentor and motivate the finance team towards achieving both departmental and company goals (have a financial reporting and commercial skill set on the Team).
  • Lead IT Systems development working in a cross functional team identifying requirements, gaps and opportunities to get better use from existing ERP. Drive implementation of agreed upon changes/developments.
  • Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments (to include business process changes).
  • Engage, work with and support the Chief Executive and Plant Managers to improve the commercial performance of the business.
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive to prepare the Business for a sale process to include a key role in the appointment of and working with professional advisers, preparation of a data room and proactive engagement with potential purchasers of the business

Candidate profile

  • University degree specializing in accounting, finance, business or equivalent.
  • Qualified Accountant (Chartered or Cost and Management Accountant
  • Manufacturing Experience (cost accounting, factory reporting)
  • Minimum 3 years of Director of Finance/Accounting Manager experience
  • Strong business acumen with excellent communication skills both written and verbal (to include work associated with preparing the business for sale process)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the Management team to include visiting all of the plants across the Group to work with and support the Plant Managers on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to develop and manage a high-performance team focused on accountability and meeting and exceeding expectations. Will require on-site working at least 4 days each week.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize projects and provide follow-up with strong attention to detail.
  • Good experience with IT systems implementation/development.
  • Excellent decision-making skills, including information gathering and problem solving
  • Demonstrated focus on results and business/process improvements to include a customer focused mentality.
