MedStar Health is seeking a Certified Staff Physicist to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The ideal candidate will be a Certified Medical Physicist specializing in therapeutic radiological physics.
As a Physicist Staff Certified, you will be responsible for providing quality assurance, benchmarking, and documenting the operation of therapeutic radiologic equipment. You will also be involved in quality assurance and the design of treatment plan parameters for external beam radiation therapy.

Primary Duties:Assist in brachytherapy treatments as needed. Participate actively in journal club, chart rounds, quality assurance meetings, morbidity rounds, and technical meetings. Attend at least one scientific meeting annually.
Ensure all charts are checked weekly and are in good order. Perform calibrations at appropriate intervals for each machine. Check each computer plan by manual calculation before the second treatment, signed by the physician and treatment therapist.
Follow the preventative maintenance program for all appropriate equipment. Minimize downtime by ensuring prompt repairs and immediate physics checks following repairs. Adhere to all policies and procedures, and recommend improvements in staff, equipment, and operations as appropriate.
Maintain quality assurance programs for all major equipment on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis, complying with current standards. Practice good radiation safety, including ALARA principles, and keep safety records. Be available for consultation with physicians, dosimetrists, or therapists. Provide technical assistance in simulation or treatment rooms as needed.
Perform initial calibration, testing, and acceptance of new equipment before clinical use. Educate technical staff on physics topics. Work on special projects as needed. Satisfy licensing requirements, renewals, and certifications per Maryland state regulations. Conduct calculations and treatment planning as needed.
Master's or Doctoral degree in Medical Physics, Physics, Health Physics, or Engineering with at least 1 year of postgraduate training in Medical Physics.
At least 6 months of clinical radiation therapy physicist experience.
American Board of Radiology (ABR) Certification or American Board of Medical Physicists (ABMP) certification.
This position offers a hiring range of $157,996 - $336,502.
