  • We are hiring immediately for full time CENTRAL STERILE TECH positions.

  • Location: Westchester Medical Center - 100 Woods Road, Valhalla, NY 10595 Note: online applications accepted only.

  • Schedule: Full time schedule. Days may vary, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm, or 11:00 pm - 7:00 am. Must be able to work every other weekend/holiday. More details upon interview.

  • Requirement: Required Certifications: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).

  • Pay Range: $20.00 per hour to $24.00 per hour.

Job Summary

Summary: Carry out reprocessing tasks in Sterile Processing and Equipment Distribution, which involve decontamination, sterilization, assembly, creation of case carts, storage, and distribution of medical and surgical supplies, as well as mobile equipment, for patient care and treatment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Practices efficient use of cleaning techniques, solutions preparation, equipment and tool operation.

  • Performs all decontamination cleaning and project assignments within area of responsibility or as directed by supervisor with high level of consistency, accuracy and reliability. This also includes executing cleanroom cleaning SOP's.

  • Must wear PPE appropriately and in the appropriate area of the department.

  • Read and understand Manufacturer IFU in relation to the cleaning and maintenance of all small movable equipment.

  • Pick up soiled utility bins from soiled utility rooms and replace with clean bins to designated areas.

  • Pick up all bulk supplies for Central Sterile Department from Receiving Dock and deliver to storage area for proper storage.

  • Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, sterilizes, and transports equipment, supplies and instruments according to manufacturer's IFU and prescribed procedures and techniques.

  • Decontaminates the full range of reusable patient care equipment and medical supplies, including but not limited to containers and equipment such as aspirators, croupettes, oxygen suppliers and small movable equipment using detergents and disinfecting solutions all according to manufacturer's IFU.

  • Deliver daily to O.R, Clinics and Nursing Unit inventory to their assigned destination on a timely basis.

  • Retrieve all Sterile Processing Unit cargo trucks and soiled utility bins from nursing units on a timely basis.

  • Pick up on a daily basis all soiled Small Movable Equipment from soiled utility rooms on all Nursing Units and return to Central Sterile Decontamination Room for processing.

  • Prepares list of contents and affixes list to package or groups of packages. Uses central system for supplies being processed.

  • May gather used supplies for hospital facilities and/or departments and return them after sterilization.

Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma/GED required

  • College level courses and related experience may substitute for Associate

  • Degree.

  • Associates Degree in Healthcare or Business related field preferred.

  • Minimum Work Experience:

  • One year experience in the Sterile Processing Department preferred.

  • Training on the Job required

Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift and move instrument sets and equipment of various weights.

  • Exposure to cleaning, High Level Disinfecting Chemicals and Enzymatic Detergents

  • Exposure to strong chemical odors

  • Extended Standing, Walking, Crouching, Bending, Sitting.

  • Pushing and pulling carts
