This position is located at the Small Animal Hospital in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Magruder Hall. The purpose of the Student central sterile assistant is to help maintain the hospital and associated equipment. The position is detail oriented and requires self-motivation. Washing, drying folding surgical linens and scrubs. Delivering sterilized instruments/equipment to appropriate departments and locations throughout the veterinary teaching hospital. - Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications Experience and/or familiarity working with and around small animals (dogs and cats). Basic knowledge of medical terminology, small animal anatomy and veterinary surgical instruments. Must be responsible, reliable, self-motivated and detail oriented. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 200 pounds. Preferred (Special) Qualifications Previous experience in a hospital or veterinary setting is preferred. This would be an ideal position for a pre-veterinary or animal sciences student with an interest in small animals (dogs and cats). Working Conditions / Work Schedule This position requires 15 to 20 hours per week, generally between the hours of 10am and 5pm Monday through Friday (usually late morning and afternoon hours). Employees should be prepared for exposure to cleaning chemicals, loud noises, animal blood or tissue, unpleasant or noxious odors.
