Job SummaryThe Coordinator Central Service (Sterile Processing) provides support, training, and communication regarding the reprocessing of surgical instrumentation and trays in compliance with the Department of Health (DOH), DNV, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, & AORN and the MVHS policies. Coordinates and manages the day to day operations of SPD employees. Promotes a team based professional work environment. Core Job ResponsibilitiesOversees daily operations of all activities related to the processing of reusable instrumentation. Relays work instructions, distributes assignments and monitors work for quality and completeness. Promotes effective teamwork throughout the department and assists staff through upcoming and ongoing changes.Completes and approves schedules in a timely and efficient manner for assigned staff. Handles vacation requests and callouts. Ensures the timely delivery of sterilized instruments to appropriate departments and storage locations.Demonstrates and ensures proper handling and care for supplies and instrumentation in all aspects throughout processing.Ensures work is completed by the end of each shift and communicates any outstanding instrumentation needs to oncoming shift.Follows AAMI ST79 standards.Schedules, leads and actively participates in in-services, staff meetings, and daily huddles.Answers and responds to OR calls and needs accordingly.Collaborates with the SPD Manager for orientation and education of employees. Ensures all staff have the resources, tools and training necessary to fulfill their duties. Drives quality measures.Uses and promotes a customer service mindset in all operations. Communicates professionally with hospital staff, physicians and vendors in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships.Supports and adheres hospital/health system policies and regulations, ensuring all activities are in compliance.Promotes best practices with staff through open communication and continuous improvement of skills.Provides timely resolution to problems, issues or emergencies. Keeps SPD Manager informed of any concerns.With the Manager and Human Resources guidance, provides input to or makes recommendations on employee hires, performance reviews, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations and similar actions.
