DescriptionBASIC JOB SUMMARY: The overall purpose of the Central Office Technician I is performing installation and maintenance, and ensuring proper functioning of Ethernet, digital switching, core routing, and video transmission equipment as well as, performing a variety of tasks. This position requires sound judgement and the ability to understand and comply with pre-established guidelines in performing the functions of the job. The Central Office Technician is expected to adhere to regulations including but not limited to Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) 586A guidelines for inside telephone and data wiring, Company policies, and values, and to represent themselves and the Company in a positive and productive manner. This position requires the ability to interact and communicate in a professional, effective manner, both in writing and verbally, with customers, co-workers, and supervisors and/or managers. Adherence to all standard operating procedures, safe work practices as found in the TEC Safety Handbook, and OSHA guidelines is essential to promote safety of all employees.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:The essential job functions and duties described below may not be the only requirements of the position. - Travel to on-site work locations using a personal vehicle or a company vehicle, therefore, a valid personal driver's license and adequate insurance coverage on the personal vehicle is required at all times
- Install, support, and maintain TEC services and equipment associated with network operations
- Operate TEC's customer tracking system in an efficient and timely manner
- Load software updates into digital equipment for the correction of existing errors and the addition of new features
- Perform daily surveillance of equipment applicable to the position
- Inform the appropriate person or management of major performance repair needs and conditions that could materially affect services
- Install, assess, and maintain transport and special service circuits utilizing copper and/or fiber
- Maintain proper functioning of multi-service access platform nodes
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
RequirementsJob Qualifications:Education/Experience - High school diploma or GED required. Approximately three (3) years of experience in IP addressing, Ethernet protocol, and some training involving IP routers and switches is preferred.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Mathematics and a thorough knowledge and understanding of telephone construction, installation, repair, and use of related equipment including computers and electronics are all essential for this position. To be successful in this position requires experience in and familiarity with communication industry and Company concepts, practices, and procedures.
