About the role The CE Electrical SME will be a key member of the Data Center Operations team and should bring expertise in various technologies, encompassing chiller systems, evaporative cooling, DX cooling, water distribution and treatment, emergency diesel generators, and fire suppression systems. Additionally, a working knowledge of building automation systems and electrical distribution is essential for this role. The ideal candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems and equipment functionality, taking on responsibilities that include procedure-based mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training, and overseeing projects. Focus
- Serve as an onsite technical resource of mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment, with an emphasis on practical field operation
- Ensure appropriate cross-functional collaboration between the local facility team and applicable local and global teams
- Contribute to the mechanical safety program for the site
- Develop and keep up to date on all site Mechanical related procedures including EOPs, SOPs, MOPs, and Drills. All documentation should be consistent with current client standards
- Plan resource, author or approve work procedures to cover mechanical troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance activities, with an emphasis on assessing & mitigating personnel and critical systems and operational risk
- Conduct or oversee hands-on troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance of mechanical equipment
- Oversee mechanical system configurations and component upgrades to ensure system integrity is maintained and that all modifications to existing systems comply with best practices, including change control processes
- Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) oversight of construction projects & maintenance activity
- Lead and/or participate in root-cause analysis activities in area of expertise
- Provide training to Critical Facility Engineers and other cross functional teams on mechanical equipment, systems, procedures, and changes to include mechanical/fire & life safety/industrial water equipment/systems and procedures
- Manage vendor relationships for mechanical maintenance and retrofit work
- Provide feedback on global mechanical maintenance strategies and global electrical system design improvements
About You
- + 7 years of pertinent experience in the mechanical industry or at the mechanical trade level
- A bachelor's degree in a related field, coupled with at least 3 years of relevant mechanical industry experience, will be considered as an alternative to the requirement for 7+ years of mechanical industry experience
- Proficient in critical environments with a track record of success
- Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints/CAD drawings
- Extensive experience in understanding mechanical plans, specifications, and equipment shop drawings
- Possesses a working knowledge of trend charts and refrigeration cycles
- Theoretical and practical understanding of mechanical equipment and systems, specializing in mechanical equipment design, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and/or construction
- Familiarity with critical facility operations, including experience or comprehension of procedure-based work
- Proficient in electrical, controls, and fire/life safety systems
- Proven experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment
Nice to have
- Background in the data center sector
- Knowledge of ASHRAE standards
- Possession of a Trade Certification or state license in Mechanical (HVAC)
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks
- Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
- Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
- Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables
- Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
- Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
- Possession of a valid driver's license for work-related travel, as required
