- The CDL Driving Instructor plays a role in the ongoing training of new students at CA BOCES Driving School.
- These positions may be located at any of our CTE centers at Belmont, Ellicottville, and/or Olean, NY.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Providing instruction on functional driving skills such as turns, curves, backing, intersections, etc.
- Train student drivers on performing safety inspections.
- Evaluate student drivers daily to determine when they are ready to progress from the range to the road.
- Provide instruction regarding driving on upgrades and downgrades including starting and stopping.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
The CDL Driving Instructor is primarily located in an outdoor environment with moderate to high noise level. The instructor may be exposed to varying weather and temperature conditions and experience other physical environments while traveling. Physical requirements include:
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, kneel, or lie down in an outdoor environment.
- Must be able to be on feet, on hard surface, for majority of shift (i.e., standing and walking while observing students on the range).

Salary: $30/hour Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid CDL A or CDL B and be eligible for Driver School Instructor Certification by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Per NYS Commissioner's Regulations Part 76.16, an instructor must meet the following standards to be eligible for certification:
- Must be 21 years of age: AND
- Must have a driver license valid for operation in New York State that:
- Has been valid for at least two (2) years preceding application in the class of the vehicle that the instructor intends to teach in; AND
- Has not been suspended or revoked in the last 2 years: AND
- Shows an acceptable driving record: AND
- Must have a high school or high school equivalency diploma; AND
- Must pass the required tests, which include a vision test, a road sign test, a written test and the driving school instructor driving test administered through NYS DMV.
- Must never have been convicted of a felony or of any crime involving violence, dishonesty, deceit, indecency, degeneracy, or moral turpitude.
