Structural Integrity Associates (SIA) is seeking an experienced Cathodic Protection (CP) Specialist/Corrosion Control Engineer in our Denver, Colorado office. Remote work from other office locations (San Jose, CA, Charlotte, NC) may be considered.
This position will primarily support CP activities within our Nuclear division but will also assist SIA's Pipeline Integrity & Compliance (oil and gas), and Critical Infrastructure divisions on select CP and/or asset integrity projects. The role requires excellent project management and communication skills, with the ability to interface with client personnel to conduct complex onsite projects and drive new business. While most work involves CP projects, SIA has a diverse team managing aging assets across plant sites, supporting departments and projects beyond CP, including environmental studies, corrosion assessments, NDE, asset Life Cycle Management, fatigue/vibration assessments, and software development.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and support installation of cathodic protection systems for complex underground piping networks
- Provide technical and regulatory consultation for Nuclear and other industrial facilities, including documentation (reports, position papers, white papers)
- Manage and oversee (on-site or remote) CP installation activities at Nuclear and industrial facilities
- Perform CP system commissioning, testing, and maintenance
- Material selection and review for industrial applications
- Conduct specialized corrosion and cathodic protection surveys; analyze data and report results
- Assess and troubleshoot existing CP systems; recommend repairs or improvements
- Support corrosion modeling and environmental corrosivity studies
- Develop proposals for CP-related work in coordination with product/client managers
- Provide technical training for SI personnel and clients
- Support and present at industry meetings on CP best practices and new methodologies
- Contribute to the development of SI's CP management applications
- Travel 25%-40%, typically in one to two-week intervals, with potential for longer assignments
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Must be NACE-certified CP Level III (Technologist), on track for Level IV (Specialist) within 1-3 years
- 8-10+ years of experience in cathodic protection, including testing, design, and modeling
- 5+ years managing construction projects
- 5+ years field experience in CP testing and troubleshooting, including CIPS/DCVG surveys
- Ability to handle complex assignments
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Self-starter, able to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Willing to pass extensive background checks for unescorted access to US nuclear facilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GIS hardware/software
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Engineering degree in a related field with NACE credentials; PE preferred
- Experience in CP design and installation in complex plant environments
- CP applications in petroleum, power, civil/structural, or water/wastewater sectors
- Experience managing complex onsite projects
- Client-facing sales and business development experience
- Programming skills desirable
