Your responsibilities in this role may include:
- Expand resources available to families through the expansion and development of transitional living programs and housing subsidies
- Develop a system to refer clients to appropriate housing and transitional programming when appropriate
- Establish and maintain referral relationships with federal, state, and county housing providers
- Develop and strengthen agency linkages with private and municipal housing resources
- Develop a series of in-house seminars to prepare families for housing eligibility, application procedures, and compliance with terms
- Assist staff in helping families locate the best housing options for their circumstances
- Research and interpret possibilities for access to public and private resources for suitable housing
- Develop systems to assist families in meeting eligibility requirements for housing
- Provide case consultation to program clinicians in the development of housing aftercare plans; work closely with staff to coordinate services related to housing
- Provide case-specific advocacy with transitional housing programs, Section 8, and other subsidized housing systems and private landlords
- Attend selected re-entry aftercare meetings specific to housing support under your local Continuum of Care (CoC)
- Ability to maintain a valid driver's license Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed
Skills & Knowledge:
- Specialized knowledge and/or training with homeless families and housing issues
- Knowledge of basic principles, practices, and procedures involved in HUD's Housing First Model
- Knowledge of housing and social service programs available to low-income individuals/families
- Manage the input of client data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) according to HUD regulations
- Knowledge of the continuum of care as it relates to drug and alcohol, and mental health treatment
- Knowledge of confidentiality and all applicable federal and state regulations about the specialty area
- Ability to perform needs assessment, develop appropriate housing and transitional programming, and complete case management service plans bi-weekly along with progress notes.
- Ability to meet with the client in the unit every month
- Serve as the primary liaison for landlords within the program by accessing landlord networks, understanding their perspectives, marketing the program, and negotiating leases on behalf of participants while building lasting relationships with landlords.
- Ability to complete HUD's Housing Quality Standard form (HQS) and Rent Reasonable documents annually
- Thorough knowledge of the respective responsibilities of lessors/lessees in standard rental contracts
- Familiarity with the real estate market, availability of multi-unit properties, and fair market rents specific to geographic locations
- Thorough knowledge of the availability of public, private, municipal, and transitional housing and housing programs
Qualifications for this role:Education: Bachelor's degree in a generally recognized clinical discipline. Experience: Knowledge of crisis intervention, case management, social work theory, and ethics is essential. Consideration will also be given to candidates with an associate degree or high school diploma, plus at least five years of experience in social services or human service programs, especially those working within housing or shelter programs, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities
