DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor for The University of West Alabama, this position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Able to effectively manage time and complete work within a reasonable time.
- Perform routine building maintenance and structure repairs according to standard carpentry procedures.
- Perform skilled carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, repair, and alteration of building structures and facilities.
- The installation and/or repair of, but not limited to: wood, drywall, windows and mouldings, floors, doors, cabinets, all types of roofing, and masonry.
- Safely use the following, but not limited to: hand saws, power tools, drills, nail guns, jig saw, table saw, and concrete saws.
- Repairing and installing all types of door hardware, including but not limited to: electronic locks, exit devices, mortise and cylindrical locks.
- Locksmith duties included but not limited to: cutting keys and re-combination of lock cores.
- Some overtime work will be required.
- Willingness to follow all safety guidelines.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Periodically performing work outside during all times of the year.
- Working on ladders or scaffolding to reach high ceilings or walls.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Transporting moderately heavy items at times.
- There may be a high level of walking required in this position.
- Operation of University vehicles will be required.
QualificationsRequired:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to interact professionally with all members of the University community and external public.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, lift heavy objects, and possess average physical strength.
- Dependable transportation.
