Position Summary This Career Advisor role is an essential member of the Career Development team working collaboratively and independently to connect Willamette University students with opportunities in STEM fields. This includes, but is not limited to: Computer Science, Data Science, Math, Physics, Statistics, and adjacent areas of study. This role's initiatives and activities include: providing one-on-one career advising, creating workshops and professional programs to connect students with opportunities, engaging and collaborating with STEM faculty and alumni for events and classroom presentations. Additionally, this role will perform a lead role in tracking and documenting all Career Development-related activities pertinent to a Title III grant. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provide one-on-one career advising, skill development, and support to undergraduate students at Willamette University interested in career opportunities related to STEM.
  • Design and deliver workshops and programs aimed at increasing the career exploration and readiness of students interested in STEM fields.
  • Organize, recruit for, and attend events including alumni speaker series, workshops, and visits to potential employers and internship sites.
  • Maintain broad current knowledge of career and economic trends and their impact on career paths.
  • Track all outcomes data related to Title III grant expectations and metrics.
  • Track, maintain, and produce reports on student career outcomes data for post-grad placement.
  • Connect with faculty and present in classrooms.
  • Build relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, employers, parents, and donors in order to support students in their career discovery.
  • Develop innovative career programming in collaboration with the Career Development team and other key stakeholders to benefit students within Willamette College.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices in graduate school advising, in order to effectively assist students as they pursue admission to graduate and professional programs.
  • Support students applying to undergraduate research programs such as REUs and Willamette's SCRP program
  • Assist with programming coordinated by others in Career Development.
  • Other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree plus 2-3 years of post-grad, professional level work experience and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Familiarity with career development and/or recruiting, job search strategies, and professional networking.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and maintaining relationships with a variety of constituents.
  • Displays the ability to design and facilitate group discussions, workshops, activities, presentations, and reflections.
  • Knowledge or ability to quickly learn about Willamette programs, career development, employers, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Experience in recruiting, human resources, or higher education
  • Familiarity with or experience in STEM/Tech work environments
Typical Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8am -5pm Physical Demands and Working Conditions Typical work is performed indoors in a normal office environment.
