Job Title: Cath Lab Technologist

Department: Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

Reports To: Cath Lab Manager / Director of Cardiovascular Services

Employment Type: Contract

Location: Alexandria, LA

Position Summary

The Cath Lab Technologist is responsible for assisting physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, ensuring the highest standard of patient care and safety. This role involves preparing and operating specialized equipment, monitoring patients throughout procedures, and maintaining compliance with all hospital, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procedure Support
  • Assist interventional cardiologists and other physicians during cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, stent placements, electrophysiology studies, and other invasive cardiovascular procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field; scrub, circulate, or monitor as needed.
  • Operate fluoroscopy and hemodynamic monitoring equipment according to established protocols.
  • Patient Care
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including verifying identity, reviewing history, obtaining consent, and explaining processes.
  • Monitor vital signs, ECG, and patient status before, during, and after procedures.
  • Administer and document medications under physician direction.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to radiation safety practices and infection control standards.
  • Maintain accurate procedural documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and report malfunctions promptly.
  • Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare staff to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency procedures.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or related field.
  • ARRT (R), RCIS, or RCES certification (or eligibility within 6 months).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • 1+ years of experience in a cardiac cath lab or similar environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with both diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Familiarity with EP (Electrophysiology) lab procedures.
  • Strong understanding of hemodynamic data interpretation.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during procedures.
  • Lift or move equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Tolerate exposure to radiation, with appropriate protective measures.
