Position Overview

As a Carbon Projects Asset Manager, you will report to the VP, Strategy and Operations. You will oversee the operational, technical, and financial performance of Rubicon's carbon assets to ensure they achieve their original investment objectives and deliver value to external clients. You will be responsible for assessing, managing, and reporting on Rubicon's carbon project assets, initially focused on Rubicon's NBS removals project investments globally. You will work with Rubicon's Science, Investments, Trading, and Strategy teams to provide technical support and problem solve with Rubicon's partner developers to achieve overall NBS portfolio performance goals. This is a new role to Rubicon and requires an agile, analytical self-starter who can continuously identify ways to add value to the organization and reshape the role accordingly.

This is a hybrid position - candidates must be based within one hour of our New York City, Los Angeles, or San Francisco office

Key Responsibilities

  • Maximize operational performance from Rubicon's carbon project assets, coordinating closely with Rubicon's Science and Supply teams as well as project developers to ensure proper asset construction, maintenance, and delivery of high-integrity carbon credits
  • Analyze data related to asset performance and expected delivery from carbon assets, and own all reporting requirements related to project performance for internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify ongoing project risks and explore mitigation strategies, including managing potential delivery and principal protection insurance policies
  • Coordinate project finance deployment according to project investments agreements with FP&A team
  • Lead day-to-day stakeholder relationships with project developer partners and serve as internal source of truth on project asset health and performance
  • Support Sales and Trading teams commercialization of project forward carbon credits through materials creation, client / prospect calls, inventory management, etc.
  • Manage and resolve legal, contractual, regulatory, and operational issues as they arise, ensuring compliance with projects' governing documents
  • Research and follow industry best practices to support asset monitoring efforts, including exploration and implementation of any software platforms used to support asset management function
  • Prepare high-quality presentations and insights for company senior leadership and board audiences
  • Develop new frameworks, processes, and operating models that help translate strategic vision into actionable initiatives to support a fast-growing investments portfolio
  • This role may require occasional international travel to project sites depending on project and partnership needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in a relevant field
  • At least 4-7 years of experience in a similar role overseeing real world assets and investments, either in a best-in-class established organization or a high-growth startup environment
  • Strong understanding of project finance, legal contracts, accounting, and contract negotiations
  • Strong knowledge of the carbon credit market is required. Prior operational experience in solar, wind, or other environmental commodity industries a plus
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex infrastructure project operations
  • Ability to understand financial models and the potential impact of operations on investments
  • High proficiency in Excel and operational tools such as Asana, G-Suite, and knowledge-sharing platforms
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with little supervision, strong learning skills with aptitude to independently research, understand, and implement knowledge in new areas
  • Strong analytical skills and preferable experience in large projects budget management / monitoring
  • Commercial mindset, strong prioritization, communication, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for clear, concise storytelling
  • Passion for climate change, sustainability, and innovation

Compensation

The approximate annual base compensation range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000. The actual offer, reflecting the total cash compensation package, long-term incentives, and excellent benefits, will be determined by a number of factors including the applicant's experience, job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team, among other factors.
