We are a market leader in our industry, committed to growth, compliance, and strategic expansion. We are looking for an experienced Capital Projects Manager to join our team.

As a Capital Projects Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing capital projects throughout their lifecycle, from initiation to service go-live, including initial modelling, costing, capturing project requirements into a brief, managing the design process, procurement of build solutions, project delivery, and handover to operations.

Ideally, you will have extensive experience in project management, a background in construction or engineering, and excellent leadership skills.

This role is critical in supporting the business in delivering our growth strategy via capital deployment projects, involving collaboration with external delivery partners and internal departments such as Operations, Commercial, Finance, Technology, Quality & Risk.

Capital projects will include construction and mobilisation of services in brick-built facilities, modular units, relocatable units, with budgets ranging from £1m to £15m.

Core Responsibilities:

  • High-level modelling and costing of capital projects to support business growth and new business acquisition.
  • Creating project briefs that capture internal build requirements and effectively communicate with external construction or modular unit providers.
  • Managing the planning application process.
  • Managing the construction design process with third-party architects and external consultants.
  • Developing project delivery plans and budgets.
  • Procurement of build solutions, including agreement of JCT contracts supported by legal teams.
  • Overseeing the overall delivery plan for property construction and mobilisation workstreams such as service delivery, technology, Quality & Risk.
  • Managing associated subcontractors involved in project delivery.
  • Controlling project spend to adhere to budgets.
  • Ensuring project deliverables meet high quality standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Identifying and mitigating project risks for successful delivery.
  • Preparing regular project status reports on timelines, budgets, and risks.
  • Ensuring smooth handover of projects to Operations and Facilities Management.
  • Conducting lessons learned reviews to enable continuous improvement.

    Skills and Experience:

    • Experience in construction/built environment project implementation, including refurbishment and new build schemes, managing both in-house and consultant design teams.
    • Experience managing construction projects in healthcare, specifically diagnostic imaging facilities like MRI, CT, PET CT.
    • Proven success in managing large capital projects to budget and timeline following RIBA methodology, with knowledge of statutory requirements.
    • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
    • Strong financial management skills for capital projects, including change management and reporting.
    • Experience overseeing all workstreams including service delivery, clinical registration, and technology with SME collaboration.
    • Ability to develop comprehensive project briefs and establish trusted relationships with third-party subcontractors.
    • Self-motivated, proactive, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to build relationships across all levels.
    • Keen attention to detail and effective team collaboration skills.

    Qualifications:

    • A first degree in construction, engineering, building surveying, or related built environment field.
    • At least 5 years of managing construction projects.
    • Experience in healthcare sector capital projects, especially diagnostic imaging.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word at an intermediate/advanced level.
    • Qualifications like Prince2, MSP, APM are desirable but not essential.
