The Architecture and Building Technology Department at Springfield Technical Community College is seeking applications for an adjunct teaching position. Architecture and Building Technology is a two-year program of study that has been developed to build a solid foundation for study and professional exploration in the multi-faceted fields of Architectural Design and Building Construction. You will develop your design and presentation skills learning technical drawing and a variety of computer-aided design programs taught by the Valley's best professional designers. Students will develop a portfolio of design projects that will serve as part of their application requirement for future architectural studies at the University of Massachusetts or the Boston Architectural College, and for professional career placement. This program is available in both daytime and evening formats. IMPORTANT NOTE: Adjunct Instructor positions are part-time, semester-to-semester, non-benefited MCCC/MTA/DCE unit positions. This position reports to the Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
- Teaches a standard range of courses expected in the first two years of a degree program in the field of Architecture and Building Technology.
- Adjuncts will conducts classes, prepares for instruction, assesses student performance, provides student assistance by appointment, collaborate with other division faculty and adjuncts to provide consistent learning objectives, and engages in professional development and required trainings. It may be necessary to teach courses across different modalities like online, hybrid, and face to face. Adjuncts are also required to meet all College policies and administrative deadlines.
Requirements: - Associate's degree in Building Construction Management/Construction or Bachelor's degree in Architecture.
- Expertise in the International Building codes for commercial and residential construction in Massachusetts.
- 3-5 years of building construction industry related experience.
- 2-3 years of successful higher education, secondary, and/or adult education teaching experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in related fields.
- Commitment to fostering inclusiveness, equity and diversity within the academic setting.
- Commitment to the mission of the community college.
- Experience building and facilitating asynchronous or hybrid courses using a standard learning management system.
- Possession of a current Massachusetts Construction Supervisors license (CSL).
- Strong written and communication skills, with strong teamwork skills.
- Strong knowledge of design-based concepts in commercial and residential industries.
- Professional licensing and certifications in Massachusetts related to architecture and/or building technology.
