Position DescriptionTitle: Campus Health Nurse (shared position)Department: Campus Health/Student AffairsReports To: Dean of StudentsSupervises: Physical Therapist, Physical Therapy AideInternal Contacts: Students, Faculty, StaffExternal Contacts: Community Partners/Vendors, Medical/Mental Health Service Providers, Weill-Cornell The Center for the Performing Artist, USI Collegiate Resources Insurance, UnitedHealthcareEmployment Status: Part-Time; ExemptSalary Range: $70/hourStart Date: August 25, 2025 (with one TBD remote orientation day prior)Position Summary:Manhattan School of Music's Campus Health Nurse works in collaboration with other Student Affairs Division and Counseling Center staff to enhance students' experience by promoting health and wellness, supporting the development and implementation of health and wellness programming, partnering with community providers to increase access to health and mental health resources, and empowering students to be self-guided and well-informed consumers of healthcare services.The Campus Health Nurse position is a shared role between two Registered Nurses (RNs), who together cover one full-time position. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Each nurse covers a portion of the weekly hours, with carefully coordinated schedules to ensure seamless coverage and continuity of care. MSM also has a summer program for children which runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm during the month of July; July activities can be shared, performed by one RN, or completed by a different RN if neither is interested.DomainsLeadership & Management* Develop and review policies and protocols for Campus Health & Wellness Office.* Manage Student Health Insurance Program.* Cultivate effective community partnership to strengthen on- and off-campus health services, programming, and events.* Collaborate with Residence Life and Wellness RAs to coordinate wellness programming, flu clinic, and STD testing.* Conduct bi-annual student health survey.* Participate in weekly Student Affairs team meetings.Clinical Duties - College Students* Assess and manage students' physical and mental health status.* Administer basic first aid and over-the-counter (OTC) treatment for minor injuries and illnesses. Follow appropriate guidelines and protocols for OTC medicine administration and delivery of treatment as needed.* Provide confidential health counseling.* Coordinate and case manage students' health needs to include referral(s) to comprehensive medical care services, counseling, and/or community resources; assist students with management of health insurance processes.* Comply with confidentiality requirements as set by HIPAA; FEROA; and federal, state and local regulations.* Coordinate MSM's Physical Therapy program by overseeing and collaborating with the School's part-time physical therapy provider and the Physical Therapy Aide (student worker).Administrative Duties* Maintain complete and accurate documentation of nursing care and follow-up delivered via Medicat software.* Administer and track referrals to Weill-Cornell The Center for the Performing Artist.* Review and modify Campus Health & Wellness forms and documentation as needed.* Provide excuse notes through the Student Engagement Excuse Form system.* Maintain accurate record of Campus Health & Wellness Office supply orders.* Complete monthly expense reports.* Review Alcohol and Drug policy, procedures, support services, and educational programs; update report as needed (Biannual Drug and Alcohol Report).* Coordinate with Philanthropy Department to prepare annual Ruth L. Knight Fund report.* Coordinate with Philanthropy Department to pursue any other grant or external funding that is deemed with the Dean of Students to be worth pursuing.Clinical Duties -MSM Summer Participants* Assess and manage physical and mental health status for students ages 8-17 in a 4-week summer day program.* Review student health records prior to the start of the program.* Provide basic first aid and OTC treatment for minor injuries and illnesses.* Follow guidelines and protocols for the administration of over-the-counter (OTC) medicine and/or delivery of treatment as needed.* Provide medication management services.* Document all visits and daily medication logs via CampDoc.* Review inventory of medicine and medical supplies, and replenish stock as necessary.* Provide EpiPen training at staff orientation.* Initiate appropriate follow-up as needed with parents/guardian.Job Requirements* Must hold a current NYS RN license; BSN-level prepared nurse preferred* 3-5 years of related experience in higher education setting preferred* Commitment to a public health model of health and wellness* Knowledge of musician- and performing artist-related health issues helpful* Sensitivity to working with people from different cultures required* Experience working with international student population desired* Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills* Self-motivated, outgoing, innovativeWork Schedule* This shared position follows an academic calendar (September through May) plus four weeks during the summer (July).* The schedule for the academic year runs Monday through Friday, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.* The schedule during MSM Summer will be set by the Office of Youth Programs; lack of availability to serve this program is not disqualifying for this position.
