The West Suburban YMCA is seeking Camp Support Staff to assist with prepping for the 2024 Summer Season at Camp Chickami! This position averages 8 hours per week (up to 15 hours per week). The dates of employment for this role are 5/6/2024-5/31/2024. YMCA Camp Chickami is a traditional summer day camp located in Wayland, MA. Founded in 1955, Camp Chickami has inspired kids with countless opportunities to laugh, lead and make lasting friendships. Together, our proven programs and trained counselors deliver meaningful and memorable camp experiences that keep families coming back year after year after year.POSITION SUMMARY: The camp support staff assist the camp director in the time leading up to camp in prepping the facility through daily custodial care and housekeeping, as well as assisting in managing the landscaping, grounds keeping, and general upkeep of site and facilities.   • Cleaning of buildings and grounds including lavatories with disinfectant including bowls and sinks, wipe down and Windex all mirrors, wash floors, clean partitions.
  • Active support of our DEIB statement and putting into practice our commitment to equity, diversity, belonging and inclusion. Continue to think about strategies to support diversity goals of the organization.
  • Clean and sanitize campgrounds and supplies in accordance with camp's safety protocols.
  • Make sure all facilities are free of any safety hazards.
  • Sweep and damp mop all camp buildings and program space when necessary.
  • Keep up cleanliness of food and milk storage area.
  • Maintain fields.
  • Prepare, clean and organize all areas of camp for the beginning of the new season.
  • Organize and take inventory of supplies.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, store in proper places.
  • Make sure all toxic liquids are labeled and properly stored in a locked area.
  • Paint when necessary.
  • Return completed work orders and requests to Camp Director.
  • Communicate any major issues with the Camp Director and YMCA Maintenance Department.
  • Aware of camp emergency procedures and prepared to act if warranted.
  • Demonstrate/teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all staff.
  • Follow all camp rules, regulations and policies and enforce them among peers.
  • Maintain positive public relations with families, visitors, and the general public at all times.
  • Able to visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities.
  • Submit all required paperwork on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Physical ability to handle equipment up to fifty pounds.
  • Physical ability to work at heights over six feet.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work in a cohesive team.
  • Willingness to go above and beyond the written job description.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Physical Demands:
  • Hear noises and work in fast paced environment that requires patience, focus and diligence.
  • Meet strength and lifting requirements of 50lbs.
  • See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
