Camp Kaufmann: The Outdoor Experience is an essential part of Girl Scouting. As the only Girl Scout council in the nation serving a 100% urban population, GSGNY prioritizes offering high quality outdoor education opportunities to New York City girls. Camp Kaufmann has 425 acres of land to oversee and maintain. It has 4 bodies of water, 4 water systems, 5 acres of grass, 1 mile of road, and 60 structures of various types including a 5,000 SQF dining hall, 8 year-round structures, 5 camp sites, a swimming pool, a lake front, a ropes course, and several other program areas. Position Description: The Camp Ranger of Camp Kaufmann will be responsible for routine upkeep and general maintenance of 425 acres of campgrounds. This role ensures the property remains clean, functional, safe, and ready for use throughout the year. The Camp Ranger must be on-site for the duration of any camp event, including evenings and weekends. Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day needs:
    • Ensure camp maintains policies and procedures set forth by GSGNY and remains a safe and secure environment for visitors, staff, and external stakeholders.
    • Monitor property boundaries and mitigate potential risks due to wildlife, fire hazards, or trespassing.
    • Perform regular walkthroughs/inspections of buildings, cabins, and utilities to identify preventative, corrective, cosmetic and routine needs.
    • Handle basic maintenance/repairs involving roofing, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC.
    • Ensure hazardous materials, tools and equipment are stored safely and in working condition.
    • Operate and maintain camp vehicles and heavy machinery including: Chevy Van, Dodge RAM, Toyota Highlander, Lawn Mowers, Golf Carts, Tractors, Gas-Powered tools.
    • Coordinate with 3rd party vendors when escalated repairs to buildings or systems are needed.
    • Keep records of repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain outdoor areas:
    • Lawn mowing and weed whacking for 5 acres in Spring/Summer months.
    • Garden upkeep and rototilling in Spring/Summer months.
    • Firewood cutting, splitting and restocking during Fall/Spring months.
    • Leaf removal in Fall months.
    • Snow/ice plowing and shoveling in Fall/Winter months.
    • Trail upkeep/maintenance year round.
    • Tree maintenance/removal year round.
    • Roads, walkways, porches maintenance year round.
    • Archery Range, Pool Pavillion, Art Pavillion, Boat House (including boats, docks, fishing equipment), Low Ropes/High Ropes Courses, Zip Line, Butterfly Garden maintenance year round.
  • Assist with seasonal setup/breakdown of facilities:
    • Seasonal units open by April 15 and close by October 15.
    • Swimming pool opens by May 15 and closes by September 15.
    • 4 individual water systems open/close during various months.
    • 4 individual chlorination & filter systems open/close during various months.
  • Assist with Girl HQ Dining Hall maintenance:
    • Maintain monthly inventory checks and equipment maintenance/inspections.
    • Assist with annual building inspections: Fire System, Fire Suppression, Fire Extinguisher, Electrical.
    • Be first point of contact for any indicators of damage - lighting issues, system alerts, persistent odors, leaks, broken fixtures, clogged toilets/sinks, broken furniture, unsafe equipment, pest activity, wall/paint touch-ups, beverage equipment malfunctions, etc.
    • Coordinate with 3rd party vendors when escalated repairs are needed.
    • Empty trash bins after meals; replace liners and sanitize bins.
    • Maintain janitorial supplies in all common areas and bathrooms.
  • Assist with External Rental Revenue:
    • Confirm space readiness per agreement: space is clean, utilities are functioning, supplies are restocked, visible damage/hazards are mitigated, lights/doors are tested, fire systems/extinguishers are functional.
    • Setup tables, chairs or other equipment per agreement.
    • Remain on-site throughout duration of rental for facility needs/emergencies.
    • Conduct post-rental walkthroughs to check property for misuse, damage, broken furniture, fixtures, equipment, etc.
    • Reset space(s) after rental concludes; restock/manage inventory as needed.
  • Assist with day, weekend, and Summer Programs:
    • Setup/breakdown units before/after occupation.
    • Transport guest luggage to/from parking lot to occupied units.
    • Maintain garbage levels and removal during/after occupation.
    • Be on-site throughout duration of programming for facility needs/emergencies.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role, including experience in routine repairs for roofing, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Willingness to be on-site for the duration of any camp events, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willingness to assist Property Manager during off-hours (in case of emergency).
  • Valid US driver's license.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and manage competing priorities.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Other demands as determined by GSGNY.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Annual Salary $50,000.00.
