Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. We are building sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface to support our mission of enabling human activity in space.

As a member of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will assist in developing and procuring cameras and optical sensors for navigation, rendezvous, proximity operations, docking, and other applications for Blue Origin's spacecraft. You will oversee the entire lifecycle of these systems, from concept to flight hardware deployment. This position requires coordination among internal teams, stakeholders, and suppliers, contributing to the success of aerospace missions.

We seek a candidate with technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to quality, with a passion for our mission and vision.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate on developing camera and optical sensor hardware for guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) and crewed lander subsystems.
  • Design imaging optics, perform image quality, tolerance, and stray-light analyses for visible and LWIR systems.
  • Support design, fabrication, testing, and characterization of prototypes.
  • Lead procurement, vendor coordination, hardware acceptance, installation, verification, validation, and certification processes.
  • Develop and execute component testing, including calibration, performance modeling, and on-vehicle testing.
  • Contribute to image signal processing (ISP) design and implementation in collaboration with software and firmware teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Imaging Science, Physics, Electrical or Optical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 7+ years of experience with cameras, image sensors, or precision opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in development, prototyping, testing, verification, and calibration of remote sensing systems for aerospace or related industries.
  • Knowledge of optical imaging components and their characterization.
  • Familiarity with imaging systems, optical and image quality metrics.
  • Experience with optical design and simulation tools like Zemax, Code V, FRED, LightTools.
  • Proficiency in image processing techniques and programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or Rust.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. in relevant fields.
  • Experience with space-grade cameras, sensors, and instruments.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft integration and testing.
  • Understanding of space environment considerations and NASA standards.
  • Leadership experience in technical teams.

Compensation ranges vary by location and are competitive. We value diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply, even if they don't meet every qualification.

Blue Origin is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive environment. We offer comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, 401(k), paid leave, and more.
