Position located in Contra Costa County. Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent, the Caltrans Bridge Maintenance Supervisor oversees a Bridge Maintenance crew responsible for maintaining assets within State rights of way, including structures, pump houses, guard rails, fences, attenuators, and possibly mechanical and electrical components of movable bridges. Responsibilities include planning and assigning work, managing equipment and materials, entering employee time and work details into the Integrated Maintenance Management System (IMMS), reviewing Bridge Reports, and updating the Bridge Work Database in the Bridge Inspection Records Information System (BIRIS) after work completion. The role requires operating vehicles with a valid Class C driver license. The supervisor may need to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency after-hours call-outs.
The incumbent should be prepared to work in diverse weather conditions, including temperatures from 20 to 110 degrees, and be exposed to environmental hazards such as poison oak, snakes, insects, loud noises, dust, chemicals, flying debris, high-speed traffic, and moving construction equipment. Work at heights over 7 feet, in confined spaces, and overnight travel for training may be required. Emergency response outside regular hours, including weekends and holidays, may also be necessary, and shift schedules may change due to departmental needs such as floods, earthquakes, or storms.
Eligibility for hire may depend on scores from the Caltrans Bridge Maintenance Supervisor exam.
