We are looking for Cafe Head Chefs to help us open our Falls Church and Fairfax cafes! As a Chef at Tatte, you will oversee all kitchen operations at your caf and are ultimately responsible for the success and growth of your kitchen team. Our Chefs may supervise up to 25 employees, including cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers. A passion for amazing food made from scratch and genuine hospitality are essential at Tatte. The Executive Chef is responsible for overall kitchen execution in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Scope of Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Manage production and service according to established guidelines
- Follow standardized recipes, portioning, and presentation standards. Complete and utilize daily production worksheets and waste logs. Taste meals to ensure quality
- Train kitchen staff in food preparation, safe handling, equipment operation, food safety, and sanitation based on company and regulatory standards
- Establish and maintain cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment, storage, and work areas, ensuring staff adherence
- Maintain inventory within guidelines, ensuring necessary products are available
- Follow safety and sanitation policies, including incident reporting
- Participate in departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs
- Implement seasonal menu changes
Working Conditions / Essential Functions:
- Flexible schedule based on sales trends and business needs, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work 10+ hour shifts, standing, sitting, squatting, or walking for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Position Requirements:
- 3-5 years of progressive culinary/kitchen management experience, depending on formal training
- Passion for culinary excellence and exceeding guest expectations
- Proficiency with systems and processes that ensure great execution
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Skills:
- Hospitality Education BS/AS Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Services Technology/Management, or related field
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with UltiPro Onboarding & Recruiting, Toast POS, CrunchTime, and Teamworks (preferred)
- ServSafe, Allergens, and ChokeSaver Certifications

Please note: Our Falls Church and Fairfax cafs are tentatively opening in September 2025. Any training before that will occur at other Virginia, Maryland, or DC-area cafs.
