Job Description :

Zappos is on the lookout for a dynamic Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to enhance our Buying and Planning division. This role focuses on designing, building, and implementing innovative BI solutions. You will take ownership of developing long-term automation strategies to streamline workflows, alongside creating immediate tools and reports to address the business's evolving needs.

The ideal candidate will be innovative, data-driven, and eager to tackle fast-changing business and operational questions. You should excel at synthesizing data from various sources to produce clear, concise reports and visualizations that facilitate informed leadership decisions, while adeptly juggling multiple analyses and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing insightful reports on the key drivers of our business.
  • Enhancing decision-making efficiency by aggregating data from multiple sources into actionable formats.
  • Creating flexible models to define and track KPIs supporting Zappos strategic initiatives.
  • Writing high-quality SQL code for data retrieval and analysis.
  • Effectively communicating complex, data-driven insights to stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Partnering with internal teams to thoroughly understand business needs and existing challenges.
  • Developing and maintaining internal tools that aid buying and planning workflows.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience analyzing and interpreting data using tools such as Redshift, Oracle, and NoSQL.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools like Tableau or Quicksight.
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  • Background in Statistical Analysis packages (e.g., R, SAS, Matlab).
  • Strong SQL skills for data extraction and scripting experience (Python) for data processing.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, or mathematics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in data mining and working with complex datasets in a business context.
  • Ability to develop and present new metrics for improved business performance understanding.
  • Advanced Excel skills along with proficiency in BI tools like Tableau.
  • Familiarity with AWS solutions including EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift.
