Overview

Business Development Manager (Litigation) is responsible for developing, leading, and implementing marketing and business development activities for our nationally recognized practice. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position. Location options include Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Melville, NY; New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; Washington, DC. The role works with key attorneys in the firm's Litigation Department to expand client relationships, generate new opportunities, and drive revenue growth across complex commercial disputes, construction and real estate litigation, government investigations and white-collar defense, intellectual property, labor and employment, and privacy and technology.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and mentor Business Development Specialist(s) assigned to support the practice group and teams.
  • Develop strategic plans to drive business development and marketing goals with practice group leaders and the marketing team.
  • Incorporate industry knowledge to anticipate client needs and trends and develop responsive solutions for practice groups and attorneys.
  • Foster strong relationships with practice group and team leaders to gain consensus on strategies and direct execution.
  • Ensure marketing plans align with firmwide strategies.
  • Identify speaking and sponsorship opportunities and target memberships to create visibility and generate new business.
  • Collaborate with lateral hiring managers to integrate new lateral partners and communicate their expertise to clients and the market.
  • Draft responses and provide strategic input for legal directories and promotional opportunities.
  • Provide thought leadership through direct mail, email, client alerts, and social media.
  • Develop marketing materials to present a consistent image across practice groups and attorney bios.
  • Produce client development seminars, firm events, conferences, and trade shows from concept to follow-up.
  • Work with Strategic Pursuits and Competitive Intelligence teams to research markets, industries, and prospects.
  • Prepare tailored letters, pitches, presentations, and proposals.
  • Support timely responses to RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs.
  • Develop and maintain collateral materials, including case lists and website content.
  • Plan and participate in practice group, team, and industry initiative meetings.
  • Develop and manage budgets.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Design teams on press releases and media content.
  • Develop content for the website, firm collateral, and internal communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 5-8 years of marketing or business development experience, with at least 3 years in a management role, preferably in a law firm or professional services.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to safeguard confidential information.
  • Strong awareness of industry trends and business practices to develop targeted programs.
  • Creative thinking and ability to bring new ideas to the team.
  • Results-oriented team player with deep knowledge of business development resources.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute events and webinars.
  • Strong leadership and client service skills.
  • Ability to manage heavy workload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Salary and Benefits

In accordance with applicable laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is:

  • Boston, MA: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Chicago, IL: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Los Angeles, CA: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Melville, NY: $129,500 to $192,500
  • New York, NY: $129,500 to $192,500
  • San Francisco, CA: $129,500 to $192,500
  • Washington, DC: $118,000 to $174,900

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for contingent compensation based on performance, location, experience, and qualifications. The salary range is Nixon Peabody's good-faith estimate at the time of posting.
