Position Specific Summary The Building Permit Technician position at the City of Tucson's Planning and Development Services Department processes application intake for building plans and permits into the permit system using established procedures to ensure quality construction in the community. This position reports to the Management Assistant. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities - Initiates permit review process by uploading documents into permit system to establish the workflow process. Provides permit and planning information to appropriate reviewers based on case types and project criteria.
- Processes application intake information including verified contacts, contractor's license's, audit approvals, and verified conditions into permit system.
- Provides assistance to customers in person and electronically through a variety of methods. Responds to inquiries and complaints related to submitted applications. Communicates with internal and external parties on procedures, assists with resolving problems, and explains actions required for processing building plans and permit applications. Determines customer needs and arranges for appropriate staff assistance.
- Ensures accurate information is entered into the permit database at intake of application, making corrections to permit and plan records as needed. Communicates process issues to supervisor.
- Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment. All duties and responsibilities listed are subject to change.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Six (6) months post high school. Experience: Two (2) years of related experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications: Experience related to Administrative support, Customer Service and Computer applications. At least one (1) year of experience in local government in duties associated with processing plans and permits for building permits, land development, zoning, plan review or related area. Formal education, certifications, and degrees in a field related to city planning, building compliance, or permitting. POSITION DETAILS
