The Community Development Department is seeking a qualified Building Official to lead our responsive and customer service-oriented Building Division. This role offers an opportunity to positively influence perceptions of local government through effective leadership and community engagement.

The City of Longwood, located in Seminole County, Florida, has a population of approximately 17,000 residents spread over 6 square miles. The Building Division processes around 1,900 permits and conducts over 5,000 inspections annually, supported by a team including an Inspector/Plans Examiner, a Building Inspector, two Permit Clerks, and administrative staff.

We aim to change the common perception of dealing with local government by being responsive, providing guidance even before permits are submitted, and striving to get to yes on complex issues without compromising safety, codes, or regulations.

The Building Official will help maintain positive relationships with residents and the development community, and will play a key role in our Economic Development strategy. This position involves collaboration with the Planning and Economic Development teams, as well as the Public Works Engineering team.

• Must possess the following State of Florida Licenses: Building Code Administrators License, Plans Examiners License, and Standard Inspectors License.
• Minimum of three (3) years of management experience in a city or county building department.
• Experience as a Building Code Administrator or Building Official (Deputy positions considered).
• At least ten (10) years of total experience in the construction field.
• Proven track record in customer service, administrative efficiency, and process improvement.
• Valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to complete ICS 100 and 700 courses within six (6) months of hire.
