A leading property management company in Washington, D.C., is seeking a skilled Building Engineer, an ideal role for veterans with experience in mechanical systems, problem-solving, and operational efficiency. This position is responsible for maintaining the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems of a commercial building to ensure peak performance. Veterans with backgrounds in facilities maintenance, engineering, or military equipment operation will find this role a great fit.Key responsibilities:- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and control systems- Ensure building life safety systems remain operational and compliant with safety regulations- Maintain accurate logs, records, and work orders to track maintenance activities- Identify and procure repair parts and supplies as needed- Monitor contractors and vendors performing maintenance or repairs- Assist with emergency response situations, ensuring minimal downtime of critical systems- Keep all mechanical and electrical rooms clean, organized, and functional- Support leadership in coordinating staff coverage and building operationsQualifications:- High school diploma or GED required- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills- Ability to work independently and within a team- Experience in mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC, or plumbing (military experience highly valued)- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook preferred- DC 1st Class Steam license preferred but not requiredThis is a great opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with a supportive team while maintaining safety and efficiency, which offers veterans a meaningful way to continue their service-oriented mindset in a new setting.Base salary, $55K - $80K, 10% bonus eligibleThis position allows you to apply their technical skills and hands-on experience in systems maintenance, gained from military service to a rewarding civilian career.
