Bridge/Tunnel Inspection Team Leader - HNTB : Job Details

This position offers the opportunity to join a top inspection team working on high-profile contracts in MA, including the Complex Bridge Inspection, MassDOT Tunnel Inspection/Rating, MBTA Bridge Inspection/Rating, and MBTA Tunnel Inspection/Rating.

Candidates should be experienced structural/bridge/tunnel engineers qualified for NBIS and NTIS inspection team leadership. Responsibilities include leading and performing field inspections of complex bridges and tunnels, developing inspection reports, and possibly performing structural analysis, load ratings, design/repair plans, and cost estimates. Candidates should be able to oversee junior staff and communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels.

• Bachelors degree in Engineering with 4 years relevant experience, or
• Masters degree with 3 years relevant experience, or
• PhD with 2 years relevant experience.

• Experience in field inspections of bridges and tunnels per FHWAs NBIS and NTIS, and other standards.
• Ability to plan and schedule inspections collaboratively.
• Experience managing detailed inspections and documenting critical findings.
• Ability to develop detailed inspection reports and cost estimates.
• Capability to perform and review structural analysis, load ratings, and related reports.
• Support during construction phases, including submittal review and field support.
• Technical guidance and mentorship skills.
• Monitoring quality and budget adherence.

• Experience with local agencies like MassDOT, MBTA, RIDOT, CTDOT.
• Completion of FHWA-NHIs Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges course.
• Experience with MassDOTs 4D database and other inspection reporting tools.
• Knowledge of analysis, design, and load rating software such as AASHTOWare BrR, Bentley STAAD Pro, or SAP CSiBridge.
• OSHA 10-hour construction safety certification.
