We are searching for our new Bookkeeper to replace the one that is retiring. We are a dynamic and growing insurance company in Charleston, SC, specializing in commercial and property & casualty insurance. With a close-knit team of less than 15 dedicated professionals, we have been serving our community for over 75 years. Our commitment is to provide exceptional service to our clients while maintaining a collaborative and supportive work environment. We offer flex time and a 35-hour work week and are located in the West Ashley area of CHS.

Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing our day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards. This role is crucial to maintaining the financial health of our company and supporting our continued growth.

Bookkeeper Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll processing.
  • Reconcile bank statements and monitor cash flow to ensure sufficient funds are available for operational needs.
  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with external accountants for annual audits and tax filings.
  • Manage expense reports and ensure timely payment of company bills.
  • Monitor and report on financial discrepancies and resolve any issues promptly.
  • Support the management team with financial insights and recommendations.
  • Perform other administrative and financial tasks as required.

Bookkeeper Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, prior experience in the insurance industry would be great or we need someone that wants to learn the insurance industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of insurance industry accounting practices is a plus BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER
