Job SummaryPurdue University Libraries welcomes applicants with expertise in geospatial information for a new clinical faculty position at the clinical assistant professor level. This will be a 12-month, fiscal year appointment, with primary responsibilities for the Libraries GIS instruction program at both undergraduate and graduate level. The Libraries provides a central place to the university in teaching, managing, and distributing geospatial information, as well as coordinating the teaching and outreach efforts for the campus GIS community. The person in this position will work with the Libraries' GIS team to fulfill this mission by engaging with the campus community to meet their geospatial information needs. In addition to supporting the instruction programs, this position will also supervise students' capstone projects, advice students in the GIS certificate program, support research projects with geospatial analysis and visualization, manage geodatabase and the GIS servers. This position will also participate in the Big Ten Academic Alliance geospatial information network, contribute to outreach efforts such as Purdue GIS Day and BTAA GIS Conference. Purdue University Libraries is a participating institution in Esri Innovation Program (EIP). The successful candidate for the position will participate in activities related to EIP and help to facilitate resource/access around this program.Successful Candidate Will
  • Develop and teach geospatial information courses and workshops that incorporate active-learning methods within an experimental education environment.
  • Engage with the campus community to develop interdisciplinary collaborations and research opportunities.
  • Work with the GIS team to administrate the GIS Certificate Program and advise students.
  • Collaborate with Libraries faculty and staff to develop instruction materials.
  • Provide in-person, phone, and virtual consultations.
  • Work as a team to coordinate the engagement activities including GIS Day event, BTAA GIS Conference, IndianaView program, Esri Innovation Program, etc.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Master's degree from an accredited GIS program or a discipline with a significant GIS component.
  • Experience with instructional material development and teaching experience in GIS.
  • Experience in the use of GIS software to store, manage, create, analyze, and display geospatial data.
  • Experience in creating and managing geodatabases and GIS server environment.
  • Experience with GIS programing and web GIS.
  • Experience of advising students.
  • Experience of outreach programs.
  • Experience in research data management.
  • Developed research agenda.

Salary commensurate with experience in the context of Purdue University's salary structure. Non-tenure track clinical faculty position. Rank of Clinical Assistant Professor.
