Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.The Publicity-Promotion Associate will help develop a publicity and marketing plan for each new book and season; produce and distribute promotional and sales materials; manage participation in conferences/exhibits as well as regional and on-campus events; oversee the book awards program and database; coordinate course adoption promotions; develop review lists and carry out physical and digital mailings; act as a liaison to authors by providing information and assisting with promotional events; maintain social media and website content; solicit and edit endorsements for books; write and submit press releases; design and submit ads; enter metadata; other duties as assigned, which fall within the scope of the classification. Examples of Duties* Assist in creating marketing and publicity plans for each book as well as monthly, seasonal, yearly plans for events, course adoption, advertising, special sales, etc.* Attend conferences and events as needed to represent the Press, sell books, and network with current and potential authors; assist with conference and event planning; coordinate conference registrations and payments; oversee packing and shipping of materials* Create content, maintain calendar, schedule and facilitate postings, etc, for social media, SIU Press website, Edelweiss, etc.* Create and share promotional materials such as catalogs, press releases, DRCs, flyers, sell sheets, videos, newsletters, etc.* Coordinate ad creation, buys, and submission* Update and maintain various physical and electronic mailing lists (subject specific lists, media lists, etc.); oversee efforts to grow all mailing lists; create and carry out review list mailings for individual titles and log reviews; coordinate news release mailings; coordinate other mailings as needed* Design and maintain Press book displays on and off campus* Send marketing materials and author packets to authors and correspond with them as necessary; coordinate with authors and media on publicity and interview requests; assist authors with events, marketing, sales, etc.* Enter marketing and sales metadata in database; update backlist metadata and prices as needed* Oversee book awards program and database* Solicit and edit endorsements for books* Collaborate with Library Affairs Graphic Designer Associate on signage for book displays and other promotional graphics* Oversee marketing graduate assistant and interns* Gather data and create reports to assess the performance of individual books, projects, authors, editors, seasonal lists, subject areas, series, etc.* Research and implement AI tools for marketing and metadata usage* Assist with Blanket Fort Radio Theater and Inside the Blanket Fort as necessary* Stay up to date with best practices in marketing, metadata, publicity, etc., as relate to scholarly and trade publishing; take advantage of available professional development opportunities* Other related duties as assigned, which fall within the scope of the classification. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, advertising, communications, marketing, humanities, or a related field.
  • One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in communications, promotions, public relations, advertising, marketing, publishing, or event planning.
  • Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
