This position is primarily responsible for transporting migrant workers / special population patients to and from camp to designated SCH appointments. This position will be responsible for conveying accurate interpretative services and maintain the confidentiality and privacy of all documents and services provided to patients. Perform a variety of interpretation, translation and SVMS services to assist Spanish speaking patients receiving care within Shenandoah Valley Medical System. Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpreter services, and convey the exact message as opposed to summarizing information in a way that is subjective.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy at all times according to SVMS policies and procedures; uses discretion when discussing patient matters.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior with patients, families, co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and other department staff.
  • Transport migrant workers / special population patients to and from camp to SCH appointments
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education:
  • Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills are required in order to perform basic data entry.
  • Written and oral fluency in English and Spanish, and/or Haitian Creole required.
  • Health care, health promotion, and working as an interpreter experience is preferred.
  • Experience dealing with ethnic/culturally diverse populations is preferred.
  • Must have excellent skills in patient communication and education.
  • Annual basic CPR certification is also required.
  • Successful completion conversation/translation competency testing in secondary language Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
Working Conditions:
  • Work is typically performed indoors with frequent sitting, standing, and bending necessary to perform daily job requirements.
  • Occasional lifting may also be necessary in this position.
  • Working outside on occasion while doing community outreach and/or events.
  • Must have reliable transportation and willing to travel as required.
