About the Program: The CAAP Counseling and Pre-Vocational Services program provides culturally competent, brief behavioral health counseling and pre-vocational services to participants of the County Adult Assistance Program (CAAP). CAAP serves adults without dependent children, who may be coping with mental health, substance use, and/or homelessness. The CAAP program is a collaborative effort with San Francisco Human Services Agency. Job Title: Behavioral Health Counselor Status: Full-Time (Monday through Friday) Benefits: Health insurance, PTO, Paid Holidays, 401K (20+ hrs/wk) Essential Job Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct brief biopsychosocial assessments to determine a client's suitability for work assignments, mental health counseling or other referrals.
  • Participate in and facilitate client outreach at Navigation Centers in San Francisco to further support client engagement in various city and county programs
  • Provide culturally sensitive, short-term (up to 4 months), mental health and substance abuse counseling to individuals and groups, along with case management
  • Consult and collaborate with clients, case managers, and internal/external providers to coordinate client care.
  • Lead workshops teaching soft skills, including SMART goals, conflict resolution, work/life balance, self care, job retention, etc.
  • Maintain timely administrative and clinical records related to client care, per standards specified by RAMS policies, clinical standards, and oversight agencies (e.g. HSA, DPH, etc.) in Epic and Launchpad.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Provide consultation to HSA staff concerning client care.
  • Participate in case conferences, clinical team and staff meetings.
  • Provide referrals to resources, both within the HSA program and other agencies within the city of San Francisco.
  • Participate in individual & group supervision (hours may be obtained toward LCSW/LMFT/LPCC licensure).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • MS/MA in Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or related field, from an accredited institution.
  • Current BBS licensure or registration
  • Ability to communicate in both Cantonese and English.
  • One year of direct services experience in a community-based agency providing case management, vocational assessment/training, linkage to service providers, and mental health & substance abuse counseling to indigent & underserved adult clients with mental/behavioral health issues.
  • Proficiency in conducting clinical & functional assessments of clients with both behavioral health and physical complaints.
  • Prior experience in assessment and treatment modalities including short-term counseling, group therapy, crisis intervention.
  • Prior experience treating clients with dual diagnoses (e.g. behavioral health/substance abuse).
  • Knowledge of treatment & recovery models including harm reduction and motivational interviewing.
Other Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with vocational rehabilitation models of practice and counseling strategies.
  • Knowledge of San Francisco systems of care and community resources for clinical services.
  • Experience with the Epic electronic health record system.
