13936 - BESS Principal Engineer (onsite) - Juno Beach, FL Start Date: ASAP Type: Temporary Project Estimated Duration: 12 months with possible extensions Work Setting: preferable in-person office presence Required: • Availability to work in Juno Beach, FL; • Experience in energy storage design, engineering, and technology evaluation (5+ years); • Experience with battery chemistry, electrical systems, power electronics, thermal management, and system integration; • Experience managing and optimizing system losses to ensure accurate battery sizing; • Experience with power purchase agreements and their unique specifications; • Experience with creating interactive Excel Spreadsheets and PowerBi dashboards; • Experience with project management; • Experience with BESS industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols related to energy storage, such as UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, applicable IFC/IBC sections; • Experience with power electronics, power conversion units, and DC/DC converters; • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field; • Willingness to travel to battery manufacturing sites for technology assessments. Responsibilities: • Lead the technology assessment efforts for utility-scale battery energy storage systems; • Evaluate technical specifications for battery components and systems, and act as leading SME in relation to Nextera Energy's BESS OEMs; • Ensure coherent and optimized sizing of the BESS from the point of interconnection, to GSU, Substation, Inverters, all the way to the battery; • Constantly update and upgrade the existing BESS sizing calculator and assess the inputs/outputs to make the sizing calculator more accurate; • Work as the lead SME in the team to assess and evaluate new and existing battery technologies and their applicability to utility-scale systems; • Conduct thorough technical evaluations and performance assessments such as degradation, efficiency, available energy, and overall reliability, encompassing battery cells, modules, and system integration; • Create weekly Energy Storage News brief for the management to stay ahead of the market activities Why apply? • Gain experience with one of the world's largest solar and wind energy providers, which last year briefly became the most valued U.S. energy company; • Work with a great team of professionals and learn newest technologies and approaches; • Enjoy our Client's wonderful campus with top-notch facilities for work and recreation; • Benefit from multiple projects extensions; • Receive support and advice from Vitaver consultants who are already working at our Client's site; • Get extra cash by participating in Vitaver Successful Completion Bonus Program; • Always get paid in full and on time.
