Position Summary: This position reports to the Senior Manager, Total Rewards. The Employee Benefits Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration and support of the organization's employee benefit programs, including health, welfare, leave of absence, and workers' compensation. This role serves as a primary resource for employees, providing guidance on benefit eligibility, enrollment, and claim resolution. The Benefits Specialist works closely with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate processing, compliance with applicable regulations, and a positive employee experience. This position also supports billing reconciliation, OSHA and workers' compensation tracking, and contributes to HR projects and process improvements as needed. Position Requirements:Formal Education / Training: Bachelors Degree in Human Resources or related field (at least one year of experience) Associates Degree and PHR/SPHR Certification (at least three years of experience) Workplace Experience: Experience in Human Resources. Must have working knowledge of FMLA, Workers Compensation, Benefits, and general HR responsibilities as they pertain to benefits. Equipment and Skills Training: Strong oral and written communication skills. Good computer skills in Word, Excel and HCM programs. Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal with employees and managers at all levels. Strong background in customer service skills. Physical Environment: Office environment. Physical Effort: No special physical effort required beyond normal mobility expected of a typical office employee. The incumbent must be able to move about the hospital without the assistance of others. Key Results: Administers employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plans; educates employees through group and one-on-one sessions. Maintains accurate employee eligibility and enrollment data across all benefit programs and systems. Serves as primary liaison between employees and insurance providers, resolving issues related to coverage, claims, exceptions and eligibility. Coordinates benefit enrollment and termination processes, ensuring timely communication and compliance with regulatory requirements. Prepares and reconciles benefit invoices and billing statements; ensures timely payment and tracking of arrears and retroactive adjustments. Manages leave of absence requests in partnership with third-party leave administrators; ensures compliance with FMLA, ADA, and company policies. Monitors and supports short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) claims; communicates with employees, carriers, and managers as needed. Maintains and audits electronic leave and benefit records; collaborates with department leaders to ensure accuracy and completeness. Administers the workers' compensation program, including claim tracking, event notifications, paperwork, and return-to-work coordination. Tracks OSHA events and prepares required OSHA reports and logs; ensures compliance with regulatory reporting timelines. Supports HR leadership with special projects related to benefits, compliance, or wellness initiatives. Maintains current knowledge of federal, state, and local benefit regulations and recommends process improvements as needed. Company Overview: As this community has grown, so have we.
