Title: Behavior Support Specialist Reports To: Principal Qualifications: Bachelors degree or higher. Demonstrated ability to work with children with special needs and behavioral needs. Experience in data collection and report writing along with a demonstrated ability to assist in the development and implementation of functional behavior assessments and implement effective behavior support plans. Ability to become a Safety Care trainer and train colleagues yearly, set up trainings and support staff as needed throughout the year. Scope of duties:
- Under the supervision of the Principal and the clinical team, design and implement appropriate therapeutic strategies.
- Observe in classrooms to support colleagues and developing effective strategies.
- Ability to work with colleagues, and offer feedback and support on an ongoing basis.
- Participate fully in scheduled supervision meetings and clinical meetings with classroom teams.
- Strong communication skills are a must.
- Abiltiy to be therapuetic and understand trauma/mental health issues.
- Develop and/or implement functional behavior assessments and implement effective behavior support plans.
- Communicate with parents concerning student behavior.
- Responsible for the collection of data and using that data to implement effective strategies.
- Crisis Intervention throughout the school with various populations.
- Under the supervision of the program principal, provide coverage for the classroom teacher due to meetings, trainings, or other activities that require the teacher to be absent if needed.
- To participate in in-service training sessions and other professional development activities as may be provided from time to time.
- Other duties as assigned program principal/executive director
